Congressman Van Drew Blasts Proposal for South Jersey Toll Hearings During COVID-19 Pandemic

Contact: Scott Weldon (202)225-6572

MAYS LANDING, NJ—In an unbelievably tone-deaf move, the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) will hold hearings this Wednesday and Thursday (April 1st and 2nd). The hearings are to discuss the proposal to raise tolls in South Jersey by a whopping 36% at time when public gatherings are prohibited, and the state is under restrictive quarantine measures.

“South Jersey is hurting. The last thing we need right now are more proposals and hearings on how politicians from Trenton can best punish our citizens even more,” said Congressman Van Drew. “Every ounce of resources in our state should be focused on defeating the hidden enemy we all have in common: COVID-19. I am asking that the SJTA cancel these hearings now.”
