Washington, DC -Today, Congressman Van Drew celebrated the passage of two of his bills through the House of Representatives with the bipartisan approval of all 12 members of the New Jersey delegation. These bills would rename United States Postal Service facilities in South Jersey, with the post office on Route 47 South in Rio Grande to be renamed the "Carlton H. Hand Post Office Building" and the post office on Route 9 South in Middle Township to be renamed the "George Henry White Post Office Building."

"Carlton H. Hand is an American hero, and his dedication to our country does not go unrecognized," said Congressman Van Drew. "During World War II, Carlton risked his life to defend his country and his countrymen, and his valiant efforts earned him countless commendations such as a Battlefield Commission, a Silver Star Medal, and a Purple Heart, among other awards. Renaming this post office in his honor not only recognizes his outstanding bravery and service but also ensures that his dedication to America will be remembered and celebrated by our community for years to come.

"Additionally, Doctor George Henry White was a pioneer for South Jersey, fostering a safer and better community for all. After serving as a Congressman in North Carolina, Dr. White came to South Jersey and founded the town of Whitesboro as a haven for African American families. His efforts cultivated a thriving community, providing unprecedented economic opportunities for black families during the early 1900s. Dr. White represents the very best of American exceptionalism, and his influence is still felt in our South Jersey community today. His legacy has paved the way for future generations, and we will be proud to have our post office bear his name."
