Washington, DC -Today, Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement after the House voted to pass the Senate's budget resolution.

"Today, the House passed a budget resolution which simply sets the framework to begin the budget process for this fiscal year," said Congressman Van Drew. "I want to make it absolutely clear that this resolution explicitly does not cut Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security, and it does not make any changes to the current law. I have said it before, and I will say it again now—I will never support any legislation that cuts benefits to eligible, legal Americans or institutions.

"Anyone who tells you this resolution includes cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security is not telling you the truth. In fact, Section 3003 of the resolution expressly provides that any spending reforms must 'fulfill President Trump's promise to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, including from waste, fraud, and abuse.'  I have been in constant communication with House leadership and the Speaker, making it clear that any bill that threatens these critical programs will not get my support.

"Now, Congress begins the hard work of drafting the actual budget that allows us to advance President Trump's agenda and restore fiscal responsibility. I will continue fighting to ensure that Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are fully protected because that is what the people of South Jersey expect, and that is what they deserve."
