Congressman Van Drew Reaffirms His Commitment to Protecting Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Van Drew released the following statement reaffirming his commitment to protecting Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid while ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.

"I want to be absolutely clear: Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid must always be protected," says Congressman Van Drew. "These programs are lifelines for our seniors, individuals with disabilities, and working families, and I will never support cuts to them.

"At the same time, we must address the rampant waste, fraud, and abuse in our government. Billions of taxpayer dollars are being mismanaged, including money spent on healthcare, legal services, and other benefits for illegal immigrants. This needs to end. We need a careful, targeted approach to root out this waste. As I have said before, these cuts should be made with a scalpel, not a sledgehammer.

"I know these fast changes can be overwhelming and there has been a lot of misinformation circulating around, but I want to reassure you that this is about making the government more efficient, not taking away benefits from those who have earned them. The budget resolution that was passed by the House was a non-binding resolution that laid the framework for savings spread over ten years—it does not enact any changes to these vital programs, nor would I ever support such cuts. As this budget moves to the Senate and incorporates input from President Trump, it will continue to evolve. President Trump has made it clear he does not support cuts to these programs, and I stand by that commitment. By cutting waste, we can better maintain these programs that Americans rely on while also delivering on no tax on Social Security, no tax on tips, and no tax on overtime.

"This process will not always be easy, but the end goal is worth it. We owe it to the American people to protect these critical programs while ensuring their tax dollars are spent the right way."
