Today Congressman Van Drew announced his support of the proposed Coronavirus relief package and the initiatives he would like to see included in a deal.
“The American economy is driven and maintained by the exceptionalism of the women and men who make up our workforce; we must do everything we can to protect them. In the upcoming Coronavirus legislation, I would like to see:
Financial support directly to individuals to keep them financially solvent.
Low-interest loans and loan forgiveness for small businesses.
Removing pre-payment penalties for full payment on loans.
Removing bank interest and penalty payments for 90 days.
Funding for senior citizens' rental, mortgage and utilities assistance.
Influx of cash for medical needs like ventilators, masks, hospital beds and other necessities for treating Coronavirus.
Prolonged and expanded unemployment insurance for impacted workers.
Canceling monthly student loan payments—and having the federal government make payments.
Increased funding for childcare.
Mortgage payments halted on all federally-backed mortgages for up to 6 months.
Evictions and foreclosure moratoriums.
Financial assistance to states and localities for crisis relief.
The focus of this legislation should be the American worker. We should be putting money directly into the hands of our workers and their families. I will do everything in my power to ensure we provide every single person in America with the support they need.”
