Washington, DC -This past Friday, Congressman Van Drew introduced the Child Tax Credit Integrity Act to bolster the integrity of our federal tax system. This bill would require any individual attempting to claim the Child Tax Credit to provide their Social Security Number (SSN) to prove lawful residence of the U.S., thereby tightening eligibility verification and closing the door on potential abuse of the system. "Right now, there is an oversight in our tax system that is being taken advantage of by those who entered our country illegally," said Congressman Van Drew. "The Biden administration's open border policies have already wasted hundreds of millions of our tax dollars. This common-sense change will end one of the worst abuses of our system and ensure Americans hard-earned tax dollars are not being used to benefit illegal immigrants." Background:
Original cosponsors of this bill include Congresswoman Harriet Hageman (R-WY), Congresswoman Mary Miller (R-IL), Congressman Troy Nehls (R-TX), Congressman Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ), and Congressman Barry Moore (R-AL). Click here to read the bill. |
