Today, Congressman Jeff Van Drew announced the winner of the 2021 Congressional App Challenge for the 2nd District of New Jersey. The App Challenge asks local middle and high school students to submit a developed application (app). The Apps are judged based on impact, structure, function, technical capability of coding, and innovation. This year's winner is Mr. Homework-Helper, developed by Te'Jean Florestal, a tenth grader at Atlantic County Institute of Technology. The app helps users calculate equations and convert Metric and Imperial units. It can convert temperature, time, length, mass, and volume. It is specifically designed with students as the target audience to aid them in their schoolwork. This app speeds up the task of converting mathematical units, which is useful not only to students, but also professionals. Te'Jean coded Mr. Homework-Helper using JavaScript. "I am very impressed with all of the app submissions this year and the ideas and innovation that went into their creation," said Congressman Van Drew. "It is apparent through Te'Jean's app, Mr. Homework Helper, that a lot of time and effort was put into creating a tool for students to assist them with their schoolwork. Congratulations Te'Jean on receiving this prestigious award; I look forward to seeing you succeed in your future endeavors." |
