Today, Congressman Van Drew voted NO on H.R.5746, NASA Enhanced Use Leasing Extension Act of 2021. Through shady House procedure, Democrats are attempting to jam pack this bill with 700 pages of extreme election reform policy taken from H.R. 1, For the People Act, and H.R. 4, John R. Lewis Voting Rights Enhancement Act, with the sole goal of nationalizing our elections. 

"This is another example of when Democrats do not get their way, they attempt to undermine democracy and ignore long-standing rules and traditions in Congress," said Congressman Van Drew. "Democrats decided to take a NASA bill and cram it with unrelated provisions last minute in an attempt to get around the Senate filibuster. With President Biden not receiving the support he anticipated from the Senate in eliminating the filibuster, House Democrats have taken it upon themselves to rush this voting rights bill in disguise to the floor for a vote. 

"Democrats do not care about expanding voter rights access or ensuring our elections are safe. All they care about is maintaining federal control over elections, undermining state election law, and forcing the federal government's hand where it doesn't belong. Democrats realize they have accomplished virtually nothing over the past year, so this is an attempt to sneakily ram through radical legislation that will diminish the security of our nation's elections."  

Provisions in this bill include: 

• Disregards state voter ID Law, prohibiting ID as a condition to vote by mail. 
• Publicly funds campaigns and makes the Federal Election Commission (FEC) partisan, which could result in House candidates receiving up to $7.2 million in public campaign funds. 
• Creates a 6:1 funding match to any small donor contributions of $200 or less in House of Representatives campaigns--meaning for every $200, the federal government will match $1,200. 
• Nationalizes our elections by stripping away election integrity safeguards implemented by the states. 
• Allows the United States Attorney General to change state voting laws. 
• Limits states' ability to conduct voter roll list maintenance.
