MAYS LANDING- Today, Congressman Van Drew condemned the plan by Governor Phil Murphy to release thousands of prisoners early into South Jersey starting the day after the election. Cumberland county in South Jersey is home to several state prisons and would be disproportionately impacted by this move. “Governor Phil Murphy’s dangerous plan to release thousands of violent criminals onto South Jersey’s streets the day after the Election citing Coronavirus concerns is ridiculous and reprehensible,” said United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew. “Cumberland County is home to several state prisons so South Jersey would once again bear the brunt of the Governor’s latest executive decision just like we did when he shut down thousands of local businesses, failed to get our hard working middle class families the Unemployment benefits they desperately needed, and mismanaged the reopening of the Motor Vehicle Commission.” ### |
