Today Congressman Van Drew announced he will be sponsoring H.R. 6194, a bill that will ensure veterans have access to their GI Bill benefits they earned, and will be using, during the current Coronavirus crisis. The Coronavirus is causing many universities around the country to transition to “distance learning,” where students attend their classes through telecommunications. This threatens to disrupt students attending school through the GI bill. As it stands, the GI bill does not account for students who must move from on-site learning to distance learning. This legislation, H.R. 6194, ensures that GI bill students continue to have access to their earned housing stipends and subsistence allowances while they attend class from home. "It is important that our adaptation to Coronavirus is as smooth a transition as possible, especially for our veterans, and this bill aids that process. That is why I am proud to sponsor this legislation." ### |
