Today, Congressman Van Drew announced his support of Little Egg Harbor’s request for a repayment deferral for FEMA funds dispersed to help with recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

"Deputy Mayor John Kehm & Committeeman Blaise Scibetta have worked tirelessly on this issue since it was first brought to the Township Committee's attention. They immediately reached out to Congressman Jeff Van Drew who was willing to stand up for the residents of Little Egg Harbor" said Mayor Barbara Jo Crea. 

"As members of the Township Committee we work every day to find ways to control spending and reduce the tax burden on our residents" "We thank Congressman Van Drew for meeting with us to discuss this issue and are grateful that he was willing to fully support us and lead the charge to help our residents" Deputy Mayor Kehm and Committeeman Scibetta said jointly. 

“I stand with Little Egg Harbor Township against the onerous request of FEMA to repay funds that would place an unnecessary burden on a town that still has not fully recovered from Sandy,” said Congressman Van Drew. “I plan to help in any way that I can to help rectify this situation.”

Background: The town of Little Egg Harbor Township was decimated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. FEMA dispersed $4.2million dollars to help with Hurricane Sandy relief under the Community Disaster Loan program. Little Egg Harbor is being asked to pay back the loan in full with accrued interest, by April 2023.
