U.S. Congressman Jeff Van Drew today announced a grant award to the Pleasantville Housing Authority for the amount of $232,916 which will enable persons with disabilities to access affordable housing and enables these individuals to live independently in the community. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded additional Mainstream Program vouchers to public housing agencies based on past utilization and performance.
“I am very glad to hear that this essential award has been granted to our district,” said Congressman Jeff Van Drew. “Housing providers and building and design professionals have a responsibility under federal nondiscrimination laws to provide housing protections for individuals with disabilities. This grant not only assists entities with these protections it also enables persons with disabilities to access affordable housing and an array of supportive services provided through local agencies with the capacity to coordinate voluntary services and supports.”
“The Mainstream grant will allow the Pleasantville Housing Authority to move the needle in Atlantic County and the State of New Jersey and continue our mission to assist a truly underserved community, non-elderly persons with disabilities,” said Pleasantville Housing Authority Executive Director Vernon Lawrence.
