Congressman Jeff Van Drew Announces Two More AFG Grants for Fire Stations Throughout South Jersey

Congressman Jeff Van Drew announces the award of the competitive Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) totaling $28,571.42 to fire stations in New Jersey’s Second Congressional District. The award will be split between two fire departments throughout the district in South Jersey. “The AFG program continues to help our first responders in South Jersey to get the protective equipment and training they need. Our first responders perform invaluable work for their community each day,” said Congressman Jeff Van Drew. “I thank the first responders for all they do for their communities in South Jersey.” Today’s funding announcement includes $8,571.42 to the Port Republic Volunteer Fire Company, and $20,000.00 to the City of Ventnor City. This makes ten grants that Congressman Van Drew has announced for the first responders of South Jersey, building on eight other grant awards. Previous funding announcements include $225,805.00 to the Borough of Penns Grove, $66,666.66 to Board of Fire Commissioners of Commercial Township, $107,476.19 to Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company, $35.485.71 to the City of North Wildwood. $125,242.85 to the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company, $56,666.66 to the City of Ocean City (Inc.), and $12,380.95 to the Absecon Fire Company 1. Totaling $658,295.44 in awards through the AFG program to date. The AFG Program is an important component of the larger, coordinated effort to strengthen the nation’s overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards. The grant is organized by Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. It has awarded $7.1 billion to first-responder organizations to obtain much needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, as well as firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training. The FY 2018 AFG Program will award another $315 million to first-responder organizations that need support to improve their capability to respond to fires and emergencies of all types. ### |
