Van Drew Votes to Protect Pre-Existing Conditions & Lower Prescription Costs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Congressman Jeff Van Drew voted today to pass the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act which would block guidance that gives states the ability to weaken the Affordable Care Act’s critical protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions. In 2018, the Department of Health and Human Services issued guidance that allows states to promote insurance plans that do not cover essential health benefits and would not have to cover those with pre-existing conditions. “As a dentist and representative, I have seen firsthand the need to make our healthcare system both more accessible and affordable,” said Rep. Van Drew. “We must focus on strengthening the Affordable Care Act in ways that protect families and small businesses, and not on stripping away coverage from the most vulnerable.” Yesterday, Van Drew and all Republicans and Democrats voted unanimously to pass two bipartisan bills to lower prescription costs. These bipartisan bills are designed to promote competition by working to ensure that generic companies are able to access accurate information on drug patents so that they can make decisions on new generic and biosimilar development. Removing barriers to generics coming to market is one key way to help bring down prescription drug costs for consumers as generic entry often results in lower prescription drug prices. ### |
