Washington, DC -Today, Congressman Van Drew introduced the Improving Police Critical Aid for Responding to Emergencies (CARE) Act, which would strengthen trauma kit standards for law enforcement by ensuring every kit purchased with federal funds meets consistent, life-saving national standards. "Our law enforcement officers risk their lives every single day to keep our communities safe, and they deserve to have the best possible tools when it matters most," said Congressman Van Drew. "Over the years, the quality of trauma kits has declined, with many departments being forced to rely on cheap, poorly made materials from overseas. These kits are used to stop severe bleeding and to save lives in emergencies, and what many officers are working with now is a serious risk to public safety and a disservice to the men and women who protect us. The Improving Police CARE Act will make sure that national standards are in place, guaranteeing that every trauma kit meets life-saving requirements. This commonsense bill ensures that when our officers reach for their trauma kits, they can trust what is inside will work." This bill is supported by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO), the Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA), and the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA).
