Washington, DC -Today, Congressman Van Drew issued the following statement opposing a request by Attentive Energy to delay $37.3 million in payments to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) for an offshore wind project located 42 miles off Seaside Heights. "Once again, the offshore wind industry is trying to avoid its financial responsibilities and stick New Jersey taxpayers with the bill," said Congressman Van Drew. "Attentive Energy's request to delay nearly $40 million in payments is nothing more than an attempt to dodge accountability. I have been fighting against these projects for years because we knew from the start they would be a financial disaster for our state. I have held multiple hearings on the issue, worked with President Trump on an executive order to protect our shores, and sounded the alarm to warn about this very thing—higher utility rates and unmet expectations. This is exactly why New Jersey already has some of the highest energy costs in the country. The developers of these projects are making promises that they cannot keep, and when it comes time to pay up, they want to delay their commitments. The NJBPU must put the people of New Jersey first, reject any further delays, and hold these developers accountable for the mess they have created." |
