Congressman Van Drew Applauds President Trump for Offshore Wind Executive Order

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Van Drew celebrated President Trump's day-one executive order which immediately halted offshore wind leasing and permitting. The order also lays the legal groundwork to permanently terminate these projects by directing the Department of the Interior (DOI) to review existing leases and examine their ecological, economic, and environmental impact.

"The executive order President Trump signed last night to halt offshore wind projects includes much of the language we provided," said Congressman Van Drew. "The president has always been a vocal critic of these disastrous scams, and we are grateful for his unwavering support. This has been a long, hard-fought battle against powerful, foreign multinational corporations that have shown zero regard for our fishing industry, our environment, our whales, national security, or the American energy consumer. These companies, aided by politicians willing to subsidize their failures with taxpayer dollars, were determined to force wind energy on us. Thankfully, this is the beginning of the end.

"I frequently spoke with President Trump about this issue, and he promised to take action. He kept his word. We worked closely with his team on crafting the language for the executive order, much of which is reflected in the final version. For those of us who care about protecting our oceans and wildlife, and for hardworking Americans already struggling with rising energy costs, this is a significant victory. Without this action, those costs would have only gotten worse. Now, our beautiful oceans will be preserved, and families will not be even further burdened with unaffordable energy bills.

"These projects were terrible from the start, and this fight has been worth every effort—for America!"
