Congressman Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2) Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Prevent Future Shutdowns

Congressman Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2) Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Prevent Future Shutdowns FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Representatives Van Drew (D-NJ) and Balderson (R-OH) have introduced H.R. 791, the ”End Government Shutdowns Act,” which will permanently prevent the federal government from shutting down, ensuring that essential government services aren’t disrupted and protecting taxpayers who must bear the resulting cost. The bill would create an automatic continuing resolution (CR) for any appropriations bill not completed by the October 1 deadline and enact across the board cuts of one percent after four months if our nation’s leaders have not come to an agreement by then. This legislation was introduced on the day when congressional leaders and President Trump announced an end to the longest shutdown in our nation’s history. “35 days is too long. Any amount of time is too long. Both parties must come together to do the responsible thing for the American people and not let our nation’s leaders play with the lives and livelihoods of our federal workers, contractors and the small businesses that depend on them. We must pass this legislation,” said Congressman Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2). “Shutdowns habitually put the federal government—and everyday Americans—in peril of not receiving their due paychecks or accessing critical resources,” said Congressman Troy Balderson. “As Members of Congress, it’s our job to make sure the government remains fully functional for all Americans. They deserve better.” Jeff Van Drew is the Representative for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District. His office in Washington, D.C. is in Cannon House Office Building Room 331 and his District office is in Mays Landing. Van Drew was a practicing dentist in South Jersey for more than 30 years and was previously Senator for New Jersey’s 1st Legislative District. He took office on January 3, 2019. ### |
