Congressman Jeff Van Drew announced today the award of the competitive Rural Energy for America Program Renewable Energy Systems & Energy Efficiency Improvement Grant. The grant totaling $60,862 was awarded to the Salem County-based rail product supplier CMI-Promex Inc to be used in constructing a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The PV system will produce enough energy annually to power 13 homes and will supply 97% of CMI-Promex’s electric power needs.

“Renewable energy is essential to the future of South Jersey’s economy and vital to protecting our environment,” said Congressman Jeff Van Drew. “I am pleased that our district has been selected for this award. A growing number of businesses and non-profits in our district are shifting to solar-based power to supply their energy needs. The Rural Energy for America Program and the United States Department of Agriculture are providing crucial support in this transition by awarding grants to deserving businesses like CMI-Promex as they pursue energy sources that will allow them to excel in the years to come.”
