Rep. Van Drew Honors John Christman, Recipient of Congressional Gold Medal

This week, I had the honor to celebrate John Christman as he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress's highest honor. John is a 99-year-old veteran from Leesburg, South Jersey and he served as a member of the Ghost Army, an American military unit that became known for outwitting the enemy during World War II.

Their unit was famous for an array of strategic moves on the battlefield, fooling the enemy with ploys like impersonating generals, blowing up inflatable tanks, and tricking them over the radio. They are credited with changing the course of the war and it is estimated that their actions saved between 15,000 to 30,000 lives. Their creativity, bravery, and patriotism are an inspiration to us all and I thank him for his incredible service.

Rep. Van Drew Visits Stanley Holmes Village

Last week, I visited Stanley Holmes Village to speak with the residents and witness the inhumane conditions that they are experiencing firsthand. The conditions that these individuals have been forced to endure have gone on for far too long under the watch of The Atlantic City Housing Authority (the Authority). That is why I sent a letter to the Office of the Inspector General for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to open an investigation into the Authority to determine if any criminal violations have been committed in the past five years.

The Atlantic City Housing Authority has received tens of millions of dollars in federal funds over this timeline, yet they have completely failed to fulfill their responsibility to maintain a clean and safe environment for the residents of its six housing complexes. This is the fourth in a series of letters that have been sent asking for the situation to be addressed at the federal level and I will continue to fight for these residents until the situation is resolved.

Rep. Van Drew Questions Special Counsel Robert Hur in the House Judiciary Commitee

Last week, I had the opportunity to question Special Counsel Robert Hur in a House Judiciary Committee hearing to discuss his findings in his investigation into President Biden's retention of classified documents as well as his decision to not recommend charges against him. In his findings, Robert Hur stated "Our investigation uncovered evidence that President Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen." These classified materials were found in countless locations and covered topics on foreign and military policy in Afghanistan and entries on issues of national security. On his decision to recommend against prosecution, Hur stated "We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory." During the House Judiciary Committee, Robert Hur made it clear in the conclusion of his investigation by stating "I did not exonerate him."

Rep. Van Drew Speaks at a Transportation and Infrastructure Markup In Opposition of Offshore Wind

This week, I spoke at a House Transportation and Infrastructure Markup where I explained the disastrous effects that offshore wind turbines would have on our coast. The implementation of these projects would have a devastating impact on our communities, and I continue to oppose this as an expensive and inefficient source of energy.

If these projects were to be implemented, ratepayers would see their utility bills skyrocket. The construction of offshore wind farms requires a major upfront investment, and this cost would be passed on to the taxpayer through a raise in utility bills. The implementation of these projects would force us to depend on other countries for our energy production. If offshore wind farms are developed and owned by foreign companies, that would mean foreign entities are in control of very critical infrastructure which poses a dire national security threat.

We accomplished a massive win in August of 2023 when Orsted announced the cancellation of its massive offshore wind projects in South Jersey, Ocean Wind 1 and 2. Yet, the fight continues as President Biden and Governor Murphy remain advocates for the Green New Deal. It is time we consider alternative sources and start producing energy here at home.

Rep. Van Drew Speaks in Support of Sarah's Law During a House Judiciary Markup

This week, I spoke in the House Judiciary Committee markup in support of H.R. 661 Sarah's Law, a bill I strongly stand behind.

Sarah's Law is a crucial piece of legislation that honors the tragic death of Sarah Root, a young woman who was killed by a drunk driver who was an illegal immigrant. Due to a policy loophole, the undocumented immigrant was able to post bond and was released, despite being in this country illegally. This bill closes that loophole and would require Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain any illegal alien who has committed a violent crime resulting in injury or death. We have heard too many stories similar to Sarah's and it is past time we start holding individuals accountable and cracking down on illegal immigration to protect our American citizens.

Rep. Van Drew Joins FOX Business to Discuss Hunter Biden's Business Associate's Recent Testimony

This week, I joined FOX Business's Maria Bartiromo to discuss developments in the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees' impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden and the recent release of the transcript from an interview with Eric Shwerin, a former Hunter Biden associate. Hunter Biden has asked to appear before Congress, yet just this week, when he had the opportunity to do so, he declined.
