Rep. Van Drew Votes to Prevent Illegal Immigrants from Voting in American Elections

Last week, I voted in favor of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act which would help to protect the integrity of our election system by requiring proof of citizenship before voting in a federal election.

With the over 9.6 million illegal immigrant encounters at our borders since 2021 thanks to President Biden's weak border policies, including more than 350 people on the terror watchlist, it has never been more important we shore up our election security and ensure that only American citizens are voting in American elections.

We have to restore Americans' confidence in U.S. elections and minimize the risk of any foreign interference. This bill is crucial to protecting our election security and ensuring every American vote counts.

Rep. Van Drew Supports Protecting Consumer Choice

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak on the House Floor in support of the Refrigerator Freedom Act which would prevent the Biden Administration from enforcing their burdensome energy conservation standards for refrigerators and freezers.

If enacted, the energy efficiency standards set by the Department of Energy would increase costs for Americans and it would take more than a decade to pay back that cost. The government's out-of-control spending by liberals has already made everyone's lives harder. Americans can hardly afford to stock their refrigerators, and now they want to make the refrigerator itself even more expensive and less effective.

Energy conservation efforts should not come at the expense of American freedom of consumer choice and their prosperity.

Rep. Van Drew Condemns the Silencing of Conservative Voices in the Media

Last week, I spoke at a House Judiciary hearing where I questioned conservative political commentator and co-founder of The Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro, on the censorship of conservative outlets by media agencies.

Here in America, we are proponents of a free marketplace of ideas. The problem is that powerful global cartels, like the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) which controls 90% of global advertising, are working to stop this free exchange by pressuring advertisers to avoid certain outlets that they deem as harmful.

This global cartel is controlling what we see in the news and on social media. GARM abuses its financial powers to silence any viewpoints that do not align with their own. Everyone should be able to hear both sides of the story. People should be able to express their own beliefs and allow the consumer to form their own opinions. Anything otherwise undermines the very foundation of our nation and our inherent right to free speech.

Rep. Van Drew Votes to Hold AG Garland in Inherent Contempt of Congress

Last week, I voted to hold Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland in inherent contempt of Congress.

AG Garland has not complied with lawful subpoenas to turn over the audio of Special Counsel Hur's interview with President Biden related to the president's alleged mishandling of classified documents case. The Department of Justice is ignoring Congress and targeting conservatives and the American people are tired of the partisan overreach with no repercussions.

That is why I supported this measure, because we must prove to the American people that no one is above the law.

Rep. Van Drew Seeks Opportunities to Advance Our Aviation Systems

Last week, I spoke at a Subcommittee on Aviation to discuss new opportunities to retain and attract qualified individuals to the aviation industry as well as advance the industry as a whole.

Staffing shortages are just one among many critical issues facing the aviation industry today. With the recent passage of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, we have solidified our commitment to continuing to advance our aviation systems and keep American travelers safe. Now that it has become law, we need to enforce it properly.

The permanent establishment of the FAA Technical Center in South Jersey is a huge step forward in advancing our aerospace technology. This center will not only create a steady stream of jobs amid nationwide shortages but will also enhance our safety and capabilities of air travel. In the face of China's growing influence, the American aviation industry must continue to take these steps to maintain our status on the global stage.

Much of our aviation infrastructure is still using outdated technology, making our systems less effective. There is still a lot of room for technological improvement nationwide and by modernizing these systems with the advancements outlined by the FAA Reauthorization, we can ensure a safer, more efficient, and globally competitive aviation industry.

Rep. Van Drew Voices Opposition to Offshore Wind

Recently, my guest commentary was published in the Press of Atlantic City voicing my resolute opposition of offshore wind. Just last week, the Biden Administration and the Department of the Interior recklessly approved the construction of the massive offshore wind farm, Atlantic Shores South, off the coast of South Jersey.

Offshore wind will have devastating effects on our coastal way of life, bringing with it economic hardship and environmental disaster. As a coastal community, our economy relies heavily on the tourists who come to visit our pristine shores each year. The offshore wind companies themselves estimate their projects will cause billions in loss in annual tourism revenues. The anchoring of these thousands of permanent offshore wind turbines will make our waters dangerous, leading to navigational nightmares and safety catastrophes. In fact, these wind farms will fail to serve their very purpose — providing cheap and reliable energy. New Jersey residents already face some of the highest utility bills in the nation and this will only worsen the economic burden on households.

Instead, we need to be embracing clean energy solutions like nuclear and solar that will work for the American consumer, not against them.
